These paintings were inspired by environments from my dreams. Dream spaces for me have always been an exciting kind of mundane. Like, it's this wonderful uncanny valley of being in a place that probably resembles somewhere you've been in real life, but it's been distorted into something that doesn't exist. And in the dream it's just accepted as true. I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the opportunity to experience these glimpses of reincarnation! Also, some of the paintings relate to my experience with sleep-paralysis and hallucinations.
These are two of my favorite paintings from my first painting class :) The first was our impasto lesson. It's a still life meant to show one side of my personality & external expression. The second was glazing. In my philosophy class, my professor mentioned that a nueroscientist on campus was doing expiriments on spiders. So I made this and called it CNSpiders like,, seein' spiders... but also like,, Central Nervous System...! B)
Powerlines have always been nastolgic to me. They remind me of going on walks with my mom. I used to dream of following the paths they cleared through the forest and getting lost. I love trees that are so much taller than me. I look up and it makes me so happy to feel so small compared to another living thing. I am filled with awesticulation!!! (<- word I made up )
These are two of my favorite paintings from my Painting II class :). Our assignments were to modernize paintings from different art movements throughout history. The first piece is replicating the style of William Baziotes (see Desert Animal, Dwarf, Tropical Bird, and Figures in Landscape by him). The second is replicating the style of Lucian Freud (The main painting I referenced was Self Portrait, Reflection).
